Season 4: Don’t Overlook the Close Stuff! - Practice Day 4
SCHOOL OF NOCK WEEK 2 – It’s easy to say why you can’t practice when you have to get to a range or the weather is poor during the winter. HOWEVER, close range training is a critical part of archery and by mentally accepting that reps up close are a great time to focus on technique and not just grouping or score. One of the reasons I dedicated a section of our bag target to these small dots is for training up close. For this session I had limited time so I just got my numbers in up close and really focused my training to the timing of my shots and getting better at how I’m shaping my thumb on the trigger barrel and pulling through smoothly and consistently! Don’t overlook the importance of technique! t these little things, these critical matters become dormant and atrophied during the hunting season or down time when we aren’t really using them! Range time right now is so important! Great archery shooting is perishable unless used. Dud goes over standing proud and shooting with your chest and shoulders, showing that full expansion really helps prevent front shoulder creep, pull through dynamics and speed and rhythms. Take time between shots and maintain that posture! Stand like a beast, shoot like a beast.
