This season of School of Nock is about building you from the inside out. We’ve covered equipment, technique, bow builds, and arrows. Now, we’re going deeper and addressing mindset.
The first concept is positive imprinting. It’s the process of forming strong, beneficial associations that shape your habits, values, and responses under pressure. In archery, this means programming your subconscious to see yourself as someone who shoots tens and stacks arrows.
Here’s a simple way to start: Set your phone and tablet lock screens to images of your best groups. Every time you unlock your device, you’re reinforcing what you’re capable of when you’re dialed in.
I keep a folder on my phone called “Imprinting” filled with my best target faces and tightest groups. On days when I’m not shooting my best, those images remind me what’s possible.
Bud Fowler put it simply: Archery is a two-step sport. Step one, learn to shoot a 10. Step two, repeat step one. Positive imprinting helps you believe in the repeat.
