This one is from Miyamoto Musashi: “You must understand there is more than one path to the top of the mountain.”

That hits home. At a recent TAC event, some archers and I got into a discussion about how we approach targets. Some range first, some lock in the shot opportunity before anything else, and some look at the target before they ever touch the rangefinder.

They all put the arrow in the same place. The mistake is getting caught up in how everyone else gets there. Choose your own path. Stick to it.

It plays the same in hunting. You hear a bugle, pull up the Huntswise map, and you’ve got a dozen ways to close the distance. The right line depends on your gear, your physical ability, and the conditions.

The view from the top is the same. The route up isn’t. Put this to work this week and you will see results.
