Excellence isn’t a single act. It’s a habit. You are what you repeatedly do.
That idea sits at the core of archery training:
- Step One: Learn to shoot a 10
- Step Two: Repeat step one
Building that repeatability comes down to building a habit, and habits don’t form on their own.
Schedule your range time, and protect it from distractions. When I train, whether it’s in the backyard, the original School of Nock, or the new HQ, I train with zero distractions. That focused, undistracted repetition turns practice into a habit and a habit into excellence.
Sports psychologists say it takes a minimum of 21 days to form a habit. Put your range sessions on the calendar and set a goal for each one. Eliminate the distractions and commit to showing up.
When the habit takes root, skipping a session starts to feel wrong, like forgetting to drink water or missing your morning coffee. That’s the goal. Training becomes so embedded in your routine that NOT doing it feels off.
No shortcuts. No hacks. No excuses. If you want to be excellent, make it a habit.
