SCHOOL of NOCK Practice - YOU HAVE TO MAKE TIME!
One of my best seasons as a competitor came with a lot of other responsibilities. All of which cost TIME. A valuable thing TIME, especially when daylight savings limits the ability to practice after work. I had to learn to make time to practice. It wasn’t as much as many of my competitors but it was all I had. The key was consistency and figuring out what part of my day could always allow me to make it happen. Lunchtime was my time. I got a 1 hour break so my bow was ready for practice each day. Honestly, When I was successful as a shooter it was never because I had the ability to practice all the time, I was a full time rep working long hours and trying to work double shifts to make up for when I went to tournaments. I had a small window to let arrows fly and that was it. That time was off limits. You need to plan it and when someone ask you if you can do something, you simply never let them overlap that window. It’s easy to say “I’m busy at lunch” but I can after… To give in is an excuse. Excuses are easy. Missing practice is easy. If you want to improve you have to make practice a “must do”. It isn’t negotiable, it’s a must! My normal days practice had to be as efficient as possible. I had to turn off distractions and scheduled my lunch to reduce other people being there. For some of us, quality practice is harder with distractions of family, friends or others around. Make the time at some point in the day where you build it into the routine. Turn off your phone. Find your own spot to get in some quick reps. They will pay dividends to your investment in archery.
